Eligibility Criteria
Free upgrades are available households that meet the following criteria.
Annual household income(before taxes) must fall below the following amounts:

Homes currently be heated with oil, propane, or natural gas
Homes must have a separate HVAC system and utility metering
Additional factors may affect a homes readiness for retrofits

Local households often face high energy bills due to expensive, outdated heating systems, drafts, and inadequate cooling. As weather becomes more unpredictable and energy costs soar, we are helping make homes more energy efficient.
Sustain Our Future Foundation (SOFF) secured a grant from the Maryland Energy Administration’s Energy Efficiency Equity Program to offer no-cost energy upgrades to low and moderate income Maryland households.

We’ve partnered with local specialists at Lumeco Energy and the Maryland Energy Administration's Energy Efficiency Equity Grant Program to help households build resilience and lower energy burdens through energy efficiency.

Are there any costs to households?
No, this program full funds the entire process for households that meet eligibility criteria. No payment will be required at any point in the process.
What documents are required?
✔️ Income verification documentation is required for all employed household members. This can include recent pay stubs, an employer letter, or proof of participation in a state-funded low-income program.
✔️ A recent utility bill (within the last three months).
How long does the process take?
The initial application takes less than 5 minutes. If you qualify, we’ll schedule your free home energy audit, and upgrades can be completed in weeks.
What is the application process?
✔️ SOFF verifies eligibility and issues notifies applicants whether they are eligible.
✔️ Lumeco Energy conducts free energy audit to check the home for health, safety, insulation, and electrification readiness.
✔️ Homes must meet weatherization and electrical upgrade requirements.
✔️ If the home has prior state-funded upgrades, it may not qualify.

Eligible households will be fitted with high-efficiency electric heat pump HVAC systems and comprehensive weatherization including insulation and sealing drafts.
